Floki has signed a historic agreement with Nottingham Forest FC, a football club in English Premier League. Floki is a memecoin which has become a full web3 ecosystem. It draws inspiration from Floki Vilgerðarson (a boat builder in Norse mythology) and dog breed popularized by Elon Musk. This collaboration highlights the growing influence of cryptocurrencies in the world sports.
Nottingham Forest FC club has been playing its third consecutive season in Premier League during the current campaign of 2024-25. The club, established in 1865, has a rich history. It had won back to back European Championship in 1978 and 1979. However, it has struggled recently to retain its position in Premier League. It narrowly escaped relegation in both of previous campaigns of 2022-23 and 2023-24 by finishing at 16th and 17th positions respectively.
How Floki will benefit from the partnership?
Paul Bell, Nottingham Forest’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) lauded the collaboration and hoped to work closely with Floki. The collaboration will benefit Floki to reach wider audience as English Premier League is the most popular football league in world football. With billions of users spread all over the world, it also has a massive following on social media. This global appeal of football makes EPL a lucrative venue for advertising.
- During all 19 home games (games held at Nottingham Forest FC stadium), Floki logo will be displayed for a total of three minutes (per match) on camera-facing LED boards. It means that TV viewers as well as stadium audiences will be able to see Floki brand.
- The Floki logo will be displayed in four slots each for official interview backdrops and press conference backdrops at home games.
- Nottingham Forest’s social media channels (with over 4.5 million followers) will promote Floki in their posts related to full-time scores and in all substitution announcements.
This partnership between a crypto-related sponsor and a football club is not new. During the previous EPL season of 2023-24, 08 clubs had partnered with crypto and blockchain related sponsorships which also included Manchester City’s deal with OKX exchange and Chelsea FC’s partnership with BingX exchange. The current season has also witnessed 14 such collaborations with crypto-related projects including BingX, OKX, etoro, Tezos, and Socios.com.
